November 7th.2008 Murcia Region Foreign Population Increases by 11%Murcia region had one of the highest increase of foreign residency registrations in Spain for 2007, reiterating it´s popularity for as one of the primary choices for people emigrating to Spain
Murcia´s overall Population grew by 2.3% as of January 1st.2008, according to figures just released by the National institute of statistics in Spain. According to the padron register 15.7% of Murcia´s population are non nationals. There was a total of 31,946 new registrations on the padron of which 22,398 were non nationals. Murcia is proving to be a very popular choice when considering where to emigrate to, this of course is helped by the easy of excess to the airport of San Javier with more and more routes being added from Britain,France , Germany,Belgium and Scandinavia and more to come when the second runway is officially opened in April 2009. August 2008 San Javier Airport Expands The government´s representative Rafael Gonzalez announced on his visit to the airport this week, that the second runway will be fully operational by April 2009. He said that all the work for the second runway will have been completed by October 2008, and therefore will be used by the Air force. These leaves the existing runway free for all commercial flights, with new daytime arrivals and take offs being permitted. In the 30 years of the airport being operative no daytime flights have been allowed due to the necessity of the Air Forces use.In recent times some early morning flights have been allowed, but from next year daytime flights will commence. With this news comes a further annoucement that improvements and expansion to the arrivals and departure areas will be improved and expanded, as well a new luggage hall and trolley park will be created , all estimated to be within the 30 million euro budget. The Torrevieja Hospital Salud 22 received a score of 98%. The study and score is conducted by using the reports of patients using the Health services. The route is the airline's 17th from Newcastle and will operate three times a week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday with return tickets starting from £46.98. Carly Brear, easyJet’s UK commercial manager, said: ‘Murcia is a popular destination from other easyJet bases in the UK. Now travelers from the north east can take advantage of one of the most popular destinations on the east coast of Spain. People of the North East can now have easier access to popular destinations such as Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa, Los Alcazares and La Manga del Mar Menor Forward bookings for the route have been very strong, which further proves the demand for direct low fare flights from Newcastle to the sun.’ easyJet expects to carry 41,000 passengers on this new route in the first 12 months of operation. 21st.April 2008 Further Expansion to San Javier Airport A further boost to the Murcian economy is the news that 49.3 million euros will be invested in the existing airport in San Javier, Murcia. There are plans to build a new terminal building, expand the car parking areas and provide new roads leading to the airport. Additionally the second runway will open - which will mean an increase in flight availability to the area. This will give a massive boost to the major tourist towns of Los Alcazares and La Manga as well as other towns surrounding the Mar Menor. 5th.April 2008 Boost for Costa Calida Coast Line Home owners, businesses and visitors will all benefit from 7 different improvement projects along the Murcia coastline. The 16 million euros budget announced by Ministry of the Environment and the Coastal Administration will be used for a variety of purposes, including improving existing coastal facilities recovering natural open spaces. This is very good news for towns like Los Alcazares, Saniiago de Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor who all rely on the beaches to attract tourism. 21st.Feb 2008 Murcia Wine Produces Bottle Vino-Light According to Typically Spanish, a vineyard in the wine producing region of Jumilla, Murcia has invented "vino light". The wine - Altos de la Ermita - has an alcohol content of 6.5 degrees - half the normal amount for traditional wine.According to the publication this means it also has fewer calories.The new light wine partly came about as a result of research from the Murcia and Cartagena University and the Technological Development Centre. The centre will have a multiplex cinema, a skating ring, gymnasium, a night cub, a large space solely for “cultural” displays and of course lots of retail shops.There will also be a large children’s area. All the necessary licenses have now been obtained, so it is planned that the work will start within the month. The entire build is projected to cost in the region of seventy six million euro´s. and take about three years to be completely finished. The designated site is 46,500m2 and once fully operational it is estimated that 4.5million people will visit the centre per annum. The centre will be a huge boost to employment for the area with about 1000 people being employed directly and a further 500 people indirectly through companies servicing the retail site. The centre will also have café’s, restaurants and bars, so as to make it a excellent all day experience.It is also hoped that it will have a knock on effect for the surrounding tourist attractions in La Manga and other Mar Menor area’s close by. Since the opening of the New Torrevieja Hospital,the health Service has improved beyond everyone’s expectations.Torrevieja Health service in the past has struggled to copewith the ever changing population, and demand has always been difficult tojudge. Particularly in the height of the tourist season, when the influx oftourist and home owners, from overseas and nationals alike. This influx has always but a heavy burden on the emergency system in particular. But due to the new mobile phone text system this no longer is the case. This innovative idea is simple, all you need to do is subscribe to the text service and then when you need accident and emergency all you´ll need to do is text “Urgencias” to 5013. You will then be informed of the waiting times in each of the emergency departments throughout the area. This in turn allows the hospital to reserve it’s accident and emergency unit for the most serious of cases. But it’s not just the A and E department that is getting rave revues a recent survey had very positive comments. The out patient dept. received 90.7%, in patients got 95.5% And the Emergency Dept. 89.8%....In particular the patients surveyed at Torrevieja Hospital commented most about, Hygiene,security, confidentiality and the Nursing staff. Torrevieja Hospital has become an asset to the area, with a very efficient service much appreciated by residents and visitors to the area.
